Blackmans Bay

Blackmans Bay, which is named after James Blackman, is a beachside suburb of the metropolitan city of Hobart, the state capital of Tasmania. Home to an estimated 6,343 residents (making this residential area the most populous in Kingborough), this suburb is located about 14 kilometres south of the city proper (or 21 minutes by road). Blackmans Bay immediately fronts the River Derwent.

Part of the Local Government Area of Kingborough, Blackmans Bay is within the Federal Division of Franklin (one of several Australian Electoral Divisions). This suburb is surrounded by four others, which are Howden, Huntingfield, Kingston Beach, and Maranoa Heights.

Beach lovers of all kinds can take advantage of the sun and surf in some of the beaches most accessible from Blackmans Bay. The three that are nearest to this suburb are Denison Beach, Friendly Beaches, and Neck Beach.

Local and visiting tourists alike will also find quite a few picture-perfect locales in and around Blackmans Bay. Some of these better-known locations include Blowhole Road (which provides a nice view of several picturesque sites along its stretch), Flowerpot Point (a popular spot for fishing), Mirramar Park, Peter Murrell Conservation Area, and Sherburd Park.
